Happy Children at Kinyarugonjo
Our Story
Kinyarugonjo Children’s Home exists to give hope, love, and care for orphans and highly vulnerable children and disadvantaged host families.
Our concern for children and families underpins the founding Institution’s Motto: “Loving God and making him loved.”
Kinyarugonjo got its start by a group of Catholic nuns known as the Daughters of St. Theresa.
The Daughters of St. Theresa of the child Jesus locally known as Banyatereza Sisters believe and serve to hold on their motto of “Love God and make Him Loved.”
The congregation was founded in 1937, in western Uganda, Fort – Portal Diocese. Their mission is to evangelize, animated by spiritual childhood, their vision is to serve under the reign of God, and their charism based on spiritual childhood of Jesus.
Vision
To help kids to be in loving families and be a model for best practice in protection for orphans and vulnerable children. We also want to prevent family separation by empowering families economically and helping develop skills to better care for their children.
Our Mission
To give appropriate care, psychosocial support, to orphans, vulnerable children, and economic empowerment to their families regardless of gender, religious, or tribal affiliation.
Our focus includes the following:
- Reuniting children with biological parents when possible
- Placing children with next of kin or foster parents
- Strengthening parents to meet the needs of their children for healthy development
