How We’re Caring for Children in Uganda During COVID-19

It is an extraordinary time. Our nation and the world are gripped by a crisis that brings with it not only illness but anxiety and uncertainty. It also shines a light on heroes willing to step up and help others. I want to express my gratitude to you for the support of Kinyarugonjo during this time.

I also want you to know what we are doing in the face of the pandemic. We are taking extraordinary actions to do everything reasonably possible to protect those we serve.

We often talk about our calling of serving the most vulnerable children in our society.

Just as the situation globally continues to evolve, so our team is adapting plans and precautions daily.

Here are some of the most important actions we have taken:

  • The Ugandan government has closed schools and travel. These steps have impacted our work.
  • To date, we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of our buildings – either children or staff.
  • All buildings are closed to outside visitors, and our staff to get screened for symptoms.
  • We are taking measures to align with local government restrictions.
  • We have stopped all short-term trips and missions.
  • Preparations are underway for emergency provisions for our children and their families.
  • Reinforcing instructions and training for our children, their families, and our team on the importance of frequent handwashing with soap and water as well as not touching your face with dirty hands.

We continue monitoring the situation and adapting as needed. Our staff has done a tremendous job communicating both internally and externally with those we serve.

During this season of concern, please remember our children and staff in your prayers. We have the responsibility to care over so many vulnerable lives, please lift us to the Lord for strength, courage, and sustained energy to respond to this crisis

Our local fundraising in Uganda has been impacted because we are not able to leave our home and receive funds from our local donors and supporters.

Will you consider supporting our work to help more children?

You can change lives and provide the hope and love of Christ and families by supporting the transformative work Kinyarugonjo. And your gift goes directly to caring for the children and families we serve.

  • Kinyarugonjo Foster Care, which matches some of the most vulnerable children with loving families.
  • Kinyarugonjo Hope Center provides services to strengthen the entire family physically, mentally, and spiritually.
  • Kinyarugonjo Kinship Care, where extended families take care of children whose parents have died or abandoned them.

All of the above families receive financial support, food, education support, health care assistance, and parenting coaching from our staff.
